Jessa Anderson Releases Her Second Music CD, Not Myself Anymore

Sunday, March 21st, 2010
Jessa Anderson Introduces New CD: "Not Myself Anymore"

Jessa Anderson Introduces New CD:

Sometimes our weakest moments or the thing we most fear can teach us the greatest lessons. That’s a big theme on this CD.

Jessa Anderson is not herself anymore, and that’s a good thing.

The Nashville-based singer/songwriter, who grew up in metro Detroit,  introduced her second CD, Not Myself Anymore, at a concert on Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at Woodside Bible Church in Troy.

2010 is shaping up to be the most exciting year yet for the 24-year-old singer/songwriter. During the next six months, Anderson and husband/co-musician Jordan are releasing her CD, touring, performing at the Alive10 Festival, and having a baby.

Anderson’s honest and intensely personal writing style continues on her sophomore release with 10 new songs. Her unique Christian-themed music combines meaningful pop with a rock/jazz influence.

"Not Myself Anymore" Debuts March 19

For Not Myself Anymore, Anderson drew inspiration from two years of life on the road. From energetic youth groups to established congregations to those living in extreme poverty, Anderson has shared her music with people from all walks of life and learned a lot in the process.

“This CD represents a lot of growth in my life, both musically and personally,” says Anderson. “I’m maturing artistically and sharing my life experiences through music.

“I chose Not Myself Anymore as the title track because it’s a great song, but also because I love the idea that God uses our experiences to change us for the better. Sometimes our weakest moments or the thing we most fear can teach us the greatest lessons. That’s a big theme on this CD.”

Anderson released her debut album, Fundamentally Broken, in 2008. Since then, she and Jordan have toured throughout the U.S., Canada, Ecuador, Romania, Germany, and Portugal.

Last year Anderson was chosen as the winner of the ALIVE09 New Artist Talent Search, resulting in a spot in the ALIVE10 lineup. Anderson will perform at Alive10 on Saturday, June 26, at Atwood Lake Park, Mineral City, OH.

Jordan Anderson Releases Stand Up! Following Gunpoint Robbery

Friday, November 27th, 2009

In the new song Stand Up!, Jordan Anderson asks “What are you saving your life for?”

Late one night in August 2007, singer/guitarist Jordan Anderson stood on the sidewalk in front of his Nashville home catching up with friend Collin Stoddard, keyboardist for 33 Miles. Anderson had just picked up Stoddard from the airport following a tour swing and brought him back to his parked car.

The conversation was winding down as the clock rolled past 1 a.m. Suddenly, three men brandishing guns approached and demanded both men’s possessions.

“My first thought was that this was some kind of joke,” Anderson said. “I couldn’t believe I was being held up in front of my own house.”

The aggressive demeanor of the three assailants quickly convinced Anderson and Stoddard that this was a real robbery. Their lives were at stake.

The pair gave up their wallets and cell phones, and Stoddard also lost a backpack filled with personal items. Fortunately, the robbers left without harming them.

The life-threatening incident left both men shaken. For the first time in his life, Anderson, then 22 years old, realized he was just as vulnerable as everyone else.

During the next year, Anderson replayed the holdup in his mind repeatedly, experiencing a series of emotions in the process. Those reflective episodes led to him to write Stand Up!, a song packed with deep-seated conviction.

In the song’s refrain, Anderson asks the question, “What are you saving your life for?” It’s a question he now poses while touring.

“As I tell I tell this story, I’m reminded how God uses the bad encounters in our lives to further His kingdom,” Anderson said. “My prayer since that day is that I don’t love life so much that I’m afraid to lose it.”

Anderson began playing Stand Up! at churches, youth groups, and coffee houses. He found the song resonated with young and old alike. Unfortunately, the song did not appear on Anderson’s debut CD, The Popular Tree.

“Every time I play Stand Up!, people ask where they can buy it,” Anderson said. “It’s been hard telling them it would be a while before I could get into the studio and record it.”

But that problem was solved with the release of a unique combination recording of both the song and an inspirational message spoken by Ken Rudolph.

Anderson came up with the idea for combining the song with a spoken message following a 10-week stint leading worship at Lake Ann Camp near Traverse City, Mich.

Week after week, speaker Ken Rudolph challenged students to take a stand for their faith. After Rudolph heard Stand Up!, he asked Anderson to perform it to highlight his closing message each week.

“It was an amazing privilege this summer challenging young people to live truly dangerous lives for Jesus Christ based on the Biblical story of Esther,” Rudolph said. “We saw the Lord move in their lives, and the pinnacle came during the song Stand Up!”

This fall, Rudolph, Anderson and his wife singer/songwriter Jessa Anderson, will take to heart the words from Stand Up! and travel to Portugal, Romania, and Germany, as part of a three-week missions trip. The Andersons will continue on to Ecuador, where they will lead worship on a second missions trip.

Stand Up! is available on iTunes and Amazon.com by searching Jordan Anderson. The combination of music and message is available only in hardcopy form and can be purchased at www.jandersonmusic.com.

If you’ve ever searched for humor books with a Christian perspective, you know they are extremely rare. That void has been filled with a new book, The Great Cheese Sandwich War: Thirty Humorous Devotional Stories and One (Really) Inspiring One.

In this just-released book, author Tim Fausch places his slightly warped and wacky microscope on the trials of everyday life. Fausch’s storytelling pokes fun at family relationships, home ownership, sports madness, vacations, and baffling cultural situations.

The book compiles 30 humorous stories, each with a reflective summary, and concludes with an intriguing inspirational story. Published by VMI Publishers, The Great Cheese Sandwich War is 189 pages, illustrated, and provides lots of funny moments supported by biblical perspective.

“I wrote The Great Cheese Sandwich War to make people laugh and to leave them encouraged,” Fausch said. “There are countless books on doctrine and Christian living, but amazingly few that use humor as a foundation.”

The book gets its name from the story about a missions trip to Ecuador and how a simple event – making 3,000 cheese sandwiches for a Christmas party – turned into comedy. This is typical of all the chapters in the book.

The Great Cheese Sandwich War: Thirty Humorous Devotional Stories and One (Really) Inspiring One is available at Christian book stores, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, ChristianBook.com, PowellsBooks.com, Borders.com and Books-a-Million.com.

Media review copies of The Great Cheese Sandwich War: Thirty Humorous Devotional Stories and One (Really) Inspiring One are available upon request by contacting New Voice Media. To sample the stories, visit the Humor Blogs on www.newvoicemediallc.com.

On the heels of the release of her first CD, Fundamentally Broken, singer/songwriter Jessa Anderson is connecting with today’s Christian music lovers with her unique style and lyrics. Response has been especially strong among the 14- to 29-year-old crowd.

“I think the reason my songs are resonating is that I write honestly about things I’ve experienced or witnessed,” Anderson said. “I try to address real issues, and that’s how people are connecting.”

Looking at the world through 23-year-old eyes provides a fresh platform for songwriting.

“I think my generation sometimes views the world as broken or misguided,” Anderson said. “Our perspective on culture dictates the way we live, and I’ve tried to reconcile that for listeners with my faith in Jesus Christ.”

“I think in the past hardship has been swept under the rug in favor of topics that make us feel good, but I think people my age respond best to authentic and honest living, which doesn’t always equal perfection.”

Anderson’s common denominator with prior generations of Christian songwriters is her faith that the solutions to life’s problems do come only through the Lord.

“In tackling our issues, each of us has to find our answers in Christ,” Anderson said. “What I’m learning and writing about is that these solutions are not predictable or routine. We each have a unique journey unfolding day by day.”

Since the release of Fundamentally Broken, an 11-song CD recorded at Big Dog Studios in Nashville, Anderson has been sharing her music live, on the Web, and on radio stations in the U.S. and Scotland. She and husband Jordan Anderson also performed in Quito, Ecuador, as part of a mission trip to share Christmas with 10,000 Ecuadorians.

Review copies of Fundamentally Broken are available upon request by contacting New Voice Media. Song styles range from driving pop/rock tunes to contemplative ballads. To sample her songs, visit www.jessaanderson.com or www.myspace.com/JessaAnderson .
